My name is Gianpaolo Del Matto. I am your host and proudly welcome you to phaq.
While you may have read about phaq already, you might actually wonder about Who Is This Guy?tm.
Well, to make a long story short: I started with computers by the age of about 8 or 9 and stayed with them after finishing my education.
I started on a helpdesk but moved on to the tech department very soon after, giving me the oppurtunity to work on more interesting things.
This is now seven years ago and I’ve ever worked as a system engineer with ISP’s since then. During this time I have worked on very different projects, on which I’ve built redundant dns clusters, multi-tier mail systems, shared hosting environments, adsl and ras/vpn infrastructures and many, many more.
I’m also very sure that I’ve replaced at least one billion of failed hard drives in that time…
Since finishing military service back in 2002 I am with Genotec Internet Consulting AG, a medium-sized ISP situated in Allschwil, near to Basel, Switzerland, where I’m responsible for the unix/networking department.
Of course there are other things besides my professional (and private, too) obsession to IT and computers. I’m regurlarly playing billiard. During the warm summer time the mountain bike is also a best friend of mine, recently joined by inline skates.
In 2005 I moved with my girl friend Nina to Oberwil near Basel, where we are living happily with our two cats (and an uncounted number of computers…).
Socialising with my best friends is also very important to me. So is also my new passion for Scotland and their famous whiskys. I’m also a bit interested in science in general, which might explain my special interest in science fiction, and Star Trek in particular, too.
Movies are my second nature, so you may certainly be not be surprised finding me every now and then watching them in cinemas. Obviously, not to few movies will eventually find their way into my DVD collection, leaving me with an ever growing storage cabinet requirement…
So, this it it. Maybe it’s now time for all of us to turn back to work, I feel there’s work waiting for me…
